South Shan
Inlay or Inle Lake in Southern Shan State, 22km long, 11 km wide, is based at about 900m above sea level, and inhabited by many different ethnic nationals of the area, famous for the unique way of life on the lake, leg- rowers and floating gardens. Nyaung Shwe, on the lake start is a tourist hub for visiting Wetland Sanctuary too.
Taunggyi, the capital of southern Shan State, is a cultural melting pot with vineyards offering views of the picturesque Aythaya Valley. Kalaw, a colonial hill station, is also known as Myanmar’s trekking point. Pindaya cave (45 km north of Kalaw) and Hten Sann Cave (42km east ofTaunggyi) are popular lime stone caves in the region of 940m above sea level on average with some peaks on 1200m heights.
East Shan
Tachileik is a border town (with Mae Sai in Thailand ) located on the east of Shan state of eastern Myanmar. Keng Tung is situated bordering with Mong La of gambling and trade center with Chinese influence.
North Shan
Lashio is a leading town in northern Shan State, famous as former Burma Road (of World War II) started there.
